When Jesus got word from a Roman Centurion that his servant was near death, Jesus began making His way to the centurion’s house to heal his servant. (Luke 7:2; Matthew 8:7) This request for healing seemed like that from any other, who believed Jesus touch, and therefore presence, was necessary for healing. That was until Jesus was stopped by the centurion’s friends with this message, “Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof. Therefore I did not even think myself worthy to come to You. But say the word, and my servant will be healed.” (Luke 7:6-7)
The Roman Centurion understood the power of Jesus’ Word was just as powerful to heal as His touch. God spoke all of creation into existence. So it would be no difficult thing for Jesus, God in the flesh, to heal the centurion’s servant with just a word. Just as the centurion believed, “his servant was healed that same hour.” (Matthew 8:13)
Like the woman who believed if she could only touch the hem of Jesus’ garment she would be healed, if we are not careful, we can get caught up in believing God can only meet our needs in a specific way, when, in reality, there is no limit to the ways God can meet our needs. With just a word He can deliver and restore us. What are you facing today that has you discouraged? No matter how your circumstances look, Jesus can restore whatever that has been lost. No situation is too far gone. Look to Jesus, trust Him, and expect to see great things. (Philippians 4:19)
